My Country Home is owned and operated by Gina Ehrlich. It's a treasure-trove of all things vintage and collectable. Visitors to MCH might expect to stumble upon anything from unique painted furniture to retro homewares, antique curios, vintage kitsch and anything else that can be squeezed into the little shack.
Mid 2014, I jumped at the chance to expand inventory with more vintage and industrial finds and decorator items for like-minded DIY'ers in the regional areas of Queensland. I wanted a haven for collectors and decorators alike, it was frustrating to see out here we didn't have the lovely shops, products weren't readily available and had to revert to buying the unknown from a website. There's nothing better than being able to browse at your leisure, touch, explore and get hands-on product guidance from someone who's knowledge is vast.
The interest in hand-painted furniture, pre-loved wares and re-purposed items was growing, with the trend for industrial-style homewares helping drive demand for rustic industrial finds and vintage gardenalia. Anything can be repurposed or easily transformed if you really think about it. I focus on sourcing interesting, sought-after items to add "intrigue and nostalgic charm” to the home- pretty much anything your vintage heart desired, especially if they have a story and bring a memory of bygone days or if they are a little bit quirky".
It's nice to feel somewhat "socially responsible" when recycling, by reusing furniture we can save around 70% of carbon that may be generated from making a new piece and we love being surrounded by one-off pieces reminiscent of our childhood, so I think the nostalgic trend in decorating is thankfully here to stay.”
Some furniture & vintage pieces sourced have, over time, developed marks and battle scars that document the piece’s history. No two pieces of furniture revamped will ever be the same and rarely would one be lucky enough to find two of anything, so once they’re gone, they’re gone!"
MCH is operating from a little shack at her family farmstead in the rural region of Blaxland on the Western Downs, Queensland. Blaxland is where they combine the best of two worlds, her love for Vintage & renovating their old house.
